A Lesson in Living Well from Sardinia

There’s a magnificent island in Italy, located west of the Italian mainland and south of the French island of Corsica where people are living some of the longest, healthiest lives in the world.

It’s called Sardinia, and it’s one of the five regions globally known as Blue Zones, places where living well into your 90’s and beyond isn’t unusual, it’s simply part of life!

What makes Sardinia so special isn’t just the breathtaking landscapes, turquoise sea or the slower pace. It’s how people live and love each and every day.
And the most inspiring part?

Their longevity isn’t based on strict routines, expensive wellness trends or anything extreme (like those ridiculous ads on Instagram!)
It’s rooted in simple, consistent lifestyle habits, many of which we can bring into our own lives, wherever we are.

Here are a few of the things that stand out from the Sardinian people:
They eat simply and locally
Meals are fresh, seasonal and mostly plant-based, with plenty of vegetables, legumes, whole grains and of course local olive oil. Food is enjoyed slowly, often shared, and deeply connected to the land.

They move every day
In Sardinia, movement is just part of life. Walking through villages, meeting up with friends, tending to gardens, being outdoors daily. It’s not structured exercise, but it happens naturally.

They stay connected
Family and community are central and essential. People spend time together daily, supporting one another and maintaining strong social bonds that last a lifetime. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?

They slow down
There’s a natural rhythm to every day. There is time to gather time to rest and time to be present. Life isn’t rushed in the same way many of us are used to. I think this is one of the most important lessons we could all adopt!

They have purpose
There’s a deep sense of meaning in everyday life. Whether through family roles, work or simply feeling needed and connected. They prioritize in-person social interaction over digital connection. Loneliness is not a common factor in their later years due to intergenerational living and daily social gatherings ♡

It’s not about where you live. It’s about how you live.

While we might not all be in a Blue Zone, we can begin to mirror these habits in small, meaningful ways:

A walk instead of a workout.
A shared meal without distractions.
A moment to pause in the middle of the day.

Spending time in a place like Sardinia can be a beautiful reminder of this way of living.

It’s not about escaping your life, but reconnecting to a rhythm that feels more balanced, more grounded and more aligned with what we actually need.

And sometimes, experiencing that firsthand, even briefly, can stay with you long after you return home.

If you would like to experience this slower, more connected way of living, please join me in Sardinia, SEPT 6-11. There are a few spaces left!

But for now, simply take what resonates and bring a little piece of this magical Sardinian lifestyle into your everyday!
